Can someone who's fluent check and see if I translated these correctly?  Thanks a bunch!  They are the exercises in the back of chapter 2 of "KA LEI HA 'AHEO: Beginning Hawaiian" by Alberta Pualani Hopkins.

A. Noun Phrases

1. a smart person he akamai kanaka

2. a big dog he nui ‘īlio

3. a handsome man he u’i k­āne

4. a pretty flower he nani pua

5. a righteous woman he pono wahine

B. Class-Inclusion Sentence E→H

1. Lani, what’s that (distant? E Lani, he aha kēlā?

2. That (distant) is a gecko. He mo’o kēlā.

3. Is that (near) a dog? He ‘īlio kēnā?

4. No, this a big cat. ‘A’ole, he pōpoki nui kēia.

5. These are very beautiful flowers. He mau pua nani loa kēia.

6. You are a very beautiful woman. He wahine u’i loa ‘oe.

7. This is a smart person. He kanaka akamai kēia.

8. Is that (distant) a righteous man? He kāne pono kēla?

9. Yes, that (distant) is a righteous man. ‘Ae, he kāne pono kēlā.

C. Class-Inclusion Sentence H→E

1. He pōpoki nani kēnā. That (is) a pretty kitty.

2. He wahine kolone loa ‘oe. You (are) a very mischievous woman.

3. E Nanea, he ka’a nui kēnā. Nanea, a car (is) very close.

4. He kanaka pono au. I (am) a righteous person.

5. E Kalei, he kāne akamai loa ‘oe? Kalei, you a very smart man?

D. Fill in the blanks

1. He aha kēia ? He lei kēia.

2. He pōpoki kēna? ‘A’ole, he ‘īlio kēnā .

3. He wahine pono au ? ‘Ae, he wahine pono au.

4. He mo’o nui kēlā ? He pōhaku kēlā.

Just remember that in Hawaiian adjectives follows the noun it is modifying. Therefore nui, u'i, akamai, nani, etc. comes after the word it is modifying. So change nos. 1 - 5 under section A.

For sec. C, #3 it is "Nanea, that (near) is a big car." #5 is asking, so you in engl. we say 'are you a very....?' :)

Are you saying there is? Or asking? And I just realized I'm stupid and should check in the back of the book...
